I believe you when you say as a basic belief you think that age and maturity are not really related to each other. But here we have a Freudian slip(perhaps) that shows that the concept you saw in others, that you didn’t enjoy seeing may be something you have in your psyche too.

Society at large feeds us all sorts of cues and unhealthy ideas designed(like older women are worth less than younger and even the fact we have to talk about this is a bit of proof in the pudding) to keep us all in line. They are so hard to identify, evaluate and weed out even in ourselves when in slinks in under our better thoughts.
